Eco-Schools

Here at Cambridge Primary we are actively involved in the protection of the future of our environment and have recently gained the prestigious ‘Green Flag’ award.

"The Eco-Schools programme is designed to help children become more effective citizens by encouraging them to take responsibility for the future of their own environment." (Eco-schools)

"Pupil involvement is a key part of the Eco-Schools programme. Having pupils engaged in the whole process, including monitoring, action planning and decision-making, leads to genuine ownership of the programme and the increase in their sense of responsibility for the school environment and local area" (Eco-schools)

We have set up our own Eco-School Council. Representatives have been elected from each class and these pupils meet with adults in school to discuss issues raised by the children.

The pupils on the Action Team have undertaken an Environmental Review. From the results of this review the children made suggestions on things that needed to be changed.

Actions taken have included:

- organising for as much waste as possible to be composted

- fitting water saving devices to toilets which should save us approximately 560 litres of water a day!
