Welcome to Year 4’s webpage.
Year 4 is a mixed ability class of 20 pupils. The class teachers are Mr Woodburn and Mrs Ritchie and supported by Mr Hartlebury, Miss Mackenzie and Mrs Clynch. Children within the class are encouraged to speak openly and honestly about their work as they move towards a more independent and responsible approach to their academic and social learning.
Children in Year 4 continue to work towards the Key Stage 2 national expectations through a broad curriculum, with Maths and English taught daily using the Big Maths and Big Writing formats. Our termly topics aim to inspire and engage children to learn more about the world around them and develop their historical, geographical and technological knowledge. This includes an emphasis on outdoor learning and visits, allowing children to ask questions, gain new experiences and enhance their social, emotional and personal development.
Pupils also continue to develop their physical, social and tactical skills through a balanced PE programme which is supported by Barrow Community Sports, Barrow Raiders and swimming at The Park Leisure Centre, as well as having access to lunch and after school clubs. In addition to sporting opportunities, children have access to a range musical opportunities for beginners and those wishing to develop further, with our annual Christmas performance giving children an opportunity to perform to an audience.
