At Cambridge Primary School we recognise that the skills learnt within Design Technology help our children to become independent and creative problem solvers, which both improves their prospects as learners and prepares them for their futures.
Children are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in the areas of food, textiles, mechanisms and structures during their time at Cambridge.
In EYFS, the children gain an understanding of the world around them by asking questions about how things work and given opportunities to solve problems. They are given the opportunities to use a variety of construction materials, developing their making in a safe manner.
In Key Stages 1 and 2, the children first have the opportunity to research and evaluate existing products before becoming designers. When designing and making their own products we encourage them to evaluate their work so they can make adjustments and improvements as they work. We also learn about key designers from the past and present, learning how they have contributed to and influenced our British society and what we can learn from their achievements.
